Exporting/Importing an Excel File using Export/Import toolbar button
Special NOTES
Do not keep your XLS sheet as a "master copy", export it -> edit it -> import it.. delete it..
Do not confuse yourself by keeping multiple copies of it. It is intended to be ephemeral. Do not move it about..
Note support for xlsx files is coming but not there yet..
Export from Dept mapping Screen in Talons SQL now
Exports and saves to an Excel XLS file as well as a CSV file (use the XLS)
Starts Excel and allows you to Edit the data in the XLS file
Saves a Header line in the data with column names in Row One
Names the range..
Names the Sheet.
Preserves correct date time formats
<new> IF a filter is active the export will be filtered and named <TLA> Dept Mapping Filtered.xls
An error in the handling of Commas in the export and import is resolved
When editing the Excel Spreadsheet
Rows may be added and deleted provided you do it right
Row one (Column headings) is not to be altered or deleted, changed, fiddled with...
Columns must not be added or deleted
Formats must be preserved e.g. Dates
You Must save and Close the file before proceeding
As all rows imported will change record date no matter what you put.. delete rows you do not want to change..
Do not add additional worksheets
You may use Column filters, and change text size, font, typeface and colour
Import into Dept mapping Screen
Imports from the XLS file you select (default location same as saved above)
Checks the layout against the saved query (no Columns may be added and Row One Column names MUST NOT be altered)
Verifies dates as before
Using Copy and paste in Dept mapping Screen
If in the view Dept Mapping Table Screen using highlight/rightlclick/copy with headings
Then rightclick/pasting back from copied as above, default Date column formats will not be correct.. as before but will be corrected
If pasting from an exported XL spreadsheet as above, formats will be correct , select all used columns including record date (12) and required rows (no header row....) and rightclick paste into view Dept Mapping Table Screen
The combination of export, edit in excel, then right click/paste rows required in provides the optimal editing option..
